Rachel T. Moresky, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University with a dual appointment in Medicine and the Program on Forced Migration and Health.  She is founding Director of the Columbia University International Emergency Medicine Fellowship which trains physicians in public health education and applied field experience in international health and disaster mitigation and management.  Dr. Moresky completed a Fellowship in International Emergency Medicine and a Master in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health.  In conjunction with the Academy of Traumatology in India, she developed a Training Center in Emergency Medicine, Trauma and Disaster Preparedness.  Dr. Moresky has worked in disaster response following the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.  Over the past decade, she has implemented and collaborated on projects with the WHO, USAID and other NGOs in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

 

Dr. Moresky’s research interests include international emergency medicine systems development in resource-poor settings, humanitarian relief, disaster medicine, disaster communication systems, referral, and public health applications of emergency medical care.  Dr. Moresky currently directs the Systems Improvement at District Hospitals and Regional Training of Emergency Care (sidHARTe) program in Ghana.  sidHARTe works  through the Ghana Health Service and other local institutions to generate tools and implement best practices to improve care for critically ill patients in the rural hospital setting.
