Dr. Eliades is responsible for leading a new initiative on Child Survival and Health working closely with the Director of the Program on Forced Migration and Health and other child faculty leading child health research initiatives in the Heilburnn Department of Population and Family Health.
Dr. Eliades is an Emergency Medicine physician and a graduate of the International EM Fellowship at Johns Hopkins. He completed his Master of Public Health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2001, and worked through the University and several INGOs in emergency health systems development in post-conflict settings. In 2004, Dr. Eliades joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Division of Parasitic Disease, Malaria Branch. He led epidemiologic studies in Africa and Asia focusing on vector control and malaria in pregnancy interventions to high-risk populations, children under five and pregnant women. After EIS, Dr. Eliades remained with CDC as a malaria advisor to the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative at USAID in Washington. He served as country lead for malaria activities in Kenya and Liberia, and was chief technical advisor for PMI’s malaria diagnostic activities.
Most recently Dr. Eliades has worked as a consultant for WHO, assisting in the development of the Integrated Management of Adult Illnesses manual, and designing a survey of migrant and mobile populations on the Thai-Cambodian border in the context of an anti-malarial resistance project. He has also assisted the Mailman School of Public Health Global Health Initiative in developing activities for an Institute of Public Health at Columbia University’s Global Center in Amman, Jordan, and maintains clinical activities at St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan.
